They may participate in sports, extra-curricular activities, picture day, etc. Virtual Academy is a program and students are registered to a BCPS school. Students who are not being successful with each of these requirements will be exited from Virtual Academy and returned to in-person school. There are requirements for student engagement in their courses as well as two-way contact with their teacher mentor, live Google Meets check-in each week with camera on, and passing grades in their classes for them to remain in Virtual Academy. ![]() Students are expected to work daily to keep up with the class pacing. The grade they receive will be the grade reflected on their report card or transcript. Students must be self-paced to complete all course materials and have a full schedule of classes, just like they would if they were in person. In elementary school, students will attend a live Google Meet session each week for PE. Virtual Academy contains all core courses such as English Language Arts and Math as well as electives. Students who are self-motivated and have learning support at home may do well in the Virtual Academy. There are no teachers, but there are teacher mentors who support students' learning by answering questions and participating in two-way contact with the students, which is required by the state of Michigan each week. In this program, the parent or parent designee is the learning coach.
